A consultant at a top central London Hospital has been charged with trying to abort a woman’s baby - against her will.

Edward Erin, 43, who worked at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington is said to have slipped a poison into a cup of tea at the home of Bella Prowse, 32, on February 2 this year.

Second attempt

Just five days later he is accused of carrying out a second attempt to abort Prowse's baby at the hospital. He has since been suspended following his arrest.

He was charged at Camberwell Magistrates' Court with two counts of "attempting to unlawfully administer a poison or other noxious thing".

He was also charged with "procuring poisons or other noxious things, namely Diclofenac and Methotrexate, knowing they were intended to be unlawfully used or employed with intent to procure the miscarriage of Bella Prowse".

He will enter a plea at Inner London Crown Court on December 1.

Miss Prowse gave birth to a healthy boy a month ago.
